History of BDACI
Founded in Brockville in 1956 by parents and family members, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT has been instrumental in developing a range of services and opportunities for people who have an intellectual disability. These have included employment, housing, education, recreation, family support and advocacy.
While BDACI was founded originally as a school, then furthered on to include residential, host family and family support, eventually BDACI did transfer all residential services to another agency. BDACI continues to provide family and community support.
Community Involvement became incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in 1972 and is an original member of the United Way of Leeds and Grenville. Currently Community Involvement currently supports approximately 200 individuals and their families throughout Leeds and Grenville. We provide individualized support which enables people with intellectual disabilities to join in typical community life in valued, self-chosen roles.
